<!-- how it works -->
How the score works
WPM counts correct characters, divided by five, per minute, so a wrong letter does not add to your speed. Accuracy counts every key as you press it, so a mistake you fix still counts. Typing in Russian is slower than in your first language for most people; the useful number is your own score next week.

Common questions
What is a good typing speed in Russian?
There is no official benchmark, but a rough guide is the same as for English: around 30 to 40 WPM is a comfortable everyday speed, 50 to 70 is fast, and above 80 is very fast. Expect to be slower in Russian than in your first language, often noticeably so at the start, because the words are less familiar and the Cyrillic layout takes time to learn. Compare your scores over time rather than with other people.
How do I type in Russian on an English keyboard?
Add a Russian keyboard layout in your system settings and switch to it (Win+Space on Windows, Ctrl+Space on a Mac). The keys then type Cyrillic letters. If you do not know where the letters are yet, the on-screen Russian keyboard on this site shows the layout.
Do I have to type ё?
The texts use ё where it belongs, and with accent checking on, е instead of ё counts as a mistake. Many Russians write е instead of ё in everyday typing, so if that is your habit, turn off "Count missing accents as errors" and е will be accepted for ё.
Does the test count ё as a different letter from е?
Yes, by default. With "Count missing accents as errors" on, every letter must match exactly, so е typed for ё counts as a mistake. Turn it off and the letter without its mark is accepted (е for ё). Й is always its own letter. Curly and straight apostrophes and quotes always count as the same character.
How is WPM calculated?
A "word" is counted as five characters, including spaces, which is the standard for typing tests. WPM is the number of correct characters divided by five, divided by the minutes you typed. Raw WPM counts every character you typed, right or wrong. Accuracy is the share of keystrokes that were right when you typed them, so mistakes you corrected with backspace still count against it.
